The Waiting Room

We’ve all spent an important amount of our precious time in the waiting room. That room that is specifically designed for waiting. Interesting thing how we are totally ok with arriving to a place and expect to be sent off to the waiting room, no questions asked or complaints.

But why do we struggle so much when in our life journey we find ourselves waiting??

I don’t know about you, but I feel like I’m always waiting for something. Waiting for that phone call, waiting for time to pass, waiting for that approval, waiting for season 5 (Oh come on, admit it, you’re also waiting to see if Abby and Trace finally end up together in  cheesy Chesapeake Shores),  waiting for that result, waiting for Christmas, waiting… always sitting on the edge in expectation.

My husband and I are in one of the most exciting times of our life. We are in the waiting room of our adoption journey.   We’re at that place where we’ve submitted all that was required and now we wait for that email or phone call.

I have to admit that there are days when waiting sucks. And days when our wonderful minds will go on a field trip and allow our greatest fears to take over our wildest imaginations. Or you know how we’re somehow wired to always expect the worse “ Just in case it happens and I need to be ready”?

Yeah, it’s a real mental battle that will affect our physical if we let it.

Life has to continue when we’re in that waiting room right?  I mean,  we may be waiting but nothing stops us from intentionally getting busy while we wait:  Learning a new skill, reading a good book,  getting fit and taking care of our beautiful selves,  cultivating new friendships…Just doing life and not missing out on the beautiful moments it has to offer. Simply being.

I have to keep telling myself to quit strategizing. I want to be present. For I am convinced that outcomes will reveal themselves eventually.

Finally, the best stew is the one that has been slowly simmering for hours on low heat. Or in more simple terms – Good things take time.

So for you, yes you, sitting there, waiting to be called in! Let’s make a habit of finding beauty in the waiting. Not forcing anything but sitting on the edge of our seats watching life unfold before us with expectation.  We are growing and developing a special strength, the kind that only grows… in the waiting.
