You Mean Colors Have Temperatures????

Eh Yep…Whether you have a flair for color or have trouble matching your outfits, we all respond to color. In fact, color is a powerful communicator and will influence your mood.

Imagine yourself walking into a very yellow sitting room. All walls painted in an intense yellow.  How does it make you feel?  It might feel happy and warm, but it will make your eyes tired since it reflects a huge amount of light. You might start feeling frustrated or angry and energetic all at once.

Each color will influence your emotions differently. That’s why color is a great tool in sales and interior design.

Is there a room in your home that feels gloomy, claustrophobic and lacks character???

Yellow may not be your favorite color of choice but having pops of it in your living room or even just one statement piece is a whole other story and one very classy one!

So if you are thinking about adding color to your home, it’s good to have a think about the mood you want to accomplish for that particular space. What color to choose?  How bold do you want to go?

Now let’s talk about hot and cold.

You may have heard colors described as having temperature…weird? Not so much, let me explain.

Color temperature refers to how a color is perceived.

“Reds, oranges, and yellows are often described as warm colors. They are typically more vibrant and seem to bring a sense of liveliness and intimacy to a space. In contrast, blues purples, and most greens are the cool colors. They can be used to calm down a room and bring a relaxed feel.”

So when you are choosing a color, make sure you consider the size of the space.  Here’s my pro tip:  Warm colors advance or appear to be nearer to us while cool colors recede or appear farther. So using warm colors in a small space will make it feel tight and claustrophobic, while cool colors in a large room could leave a “bare” feeling.

Color is a way to express yourself. So if you’ve been putting off the challenge of painting your walls  or simply jazzing up your space, time to be brave and show your true colors!
